Hey you !
Social networks are increasingly being criticized for their inaction in terms of content moderation. By the media, by users, by content creators, by authorities, by brands… In short, by the majority of public opinion. No, the role of social networks is no longer limited to the simple provision of a tool for exchange. Their impact is so huge that they must now guarantee a safe, secure and healthy environment for all their users. In other words? No legal obligation, but a moral duty that is becoming increasingly important.
5 key topics to ensure a suitable environment for all
Since its creation in 2019, the French social network Mym has wanted to commit to this. Laying a good foundation, imagining a space for exchange that is healthy for all. Mym had already put in place a number of actions to guard against any content that could harm its users (certified creator profiles, prohibited personal data sharing, banned malicious users, etc…). Today, the social network goes further. Mym has just created an independent ethics committee by gathering experts on 5 key areas of expertise: cybersecurity, digital, women’s rights, digital law, entrepreneurship.
This charter, which you can find here, was signed on November 12 and completes the groundwork we have been working on since 2019 to make the Mym platform safer for all users and of course to ensure that our core values: accountability, transparency and trust are respected.
The 3 key missions of Mym’s ethics committee
The work of this expert committee will be based on 3 pillars:
- Accompanying MYM’s managers on issues of corporate ethics
- Independently develop an ethics charter and ensure its daily application
- Engage MYM in concrete actions to support associations
Independent experts for a guaranteed neutrality
The selected experts are all financially independent from the platform. Their role is similar to that of consultants performing an audit, or of an independent label. In other words? Their objective is to provide an objective, neutral and constructive opinion.
High-flying profiles
In order to guarantee the operational efficiency of this ethics committee, recognized and committed profiles have been meticulously chosen. Here is a brief overview of these 5 experts:
