Hey You,
For many years, the Swipe up feature was one of the Instagram must-haves. The grail that allowed as soon as the community reached the figure of 10,000 people to share links directly in story. Well, it’s finished. Its replacement? A link sticker. Passion Media comes back with you on this announcement.
Instagram’s Swipe Up is gone
It was a staple of stories on the Instagram app. It was about swiping up the screen to follow a link. A way to convert content to a website, a product purchase, a video. In short, a way to multiply the impact and visibility with its community. Obviously, the feature did not have the expected success since Instagram decided to delete it. It may be one of its limitations put forward by the social network? It masked the response bar at the bottom of the screen. Anyway, since August 30, the swipe up no longer exists!
A link sticker makes its appearance on Instagram
An abrupt end and the arrival of a successor: a simple link sticker. The latter will be in the same place as the other stickers (poll, mention, question, countdown, quiz, etc. …). A way to centralize the functionalities and to homogenize the use of the contents. According to Vishal Shah, the former product manager of Instagram, the stickers indeed correspond more to the way people currently use Instagram. Users will therefore now be able to watch the content in story, and be redirected to the link simply by clicking on the sticker in question. This sticker, like all the others, will be able to be placed anywhere on the screen and will display the name of the link so that the content creator will have specified beforehand. The user will thus know what he is clicking on.
A feature that is not unanimously approved
Influencers have for many rather badly received the news. The reason? This feature was previously reserved for people with more than 10,000 subscribers and was a way for them to monetize partnerships, to make product placements, to offer exclusivities. If the link sticker is offered to all users, they would lose a major advantage.
The status arrives on Instagram
We knew them mainly on Facebook, here they are now on Instagram. The application has announced the arrival of status. It will now be possible for users to specify to their loved ones what they are doing (talking, celebrating something, attending an event, etc. …). This new element will appear directly at the bottom of the profile photo and will only be visible to close friends. It will also be possible to automate this feature so that Instagram changes your status according to the place in which it locates you. What will really be the point of this addition? Isn’t it intrusive to let the app use users’ data to specify where they are and what they are doing? It remains to be seen how this new feature will be received by the millions of users of the platform.
